Seminar about Alexander von Humboldt's research in the Russian Empire

The course is dedicated to a largely unexplored event of the life of Alexander von Humboldt, a famous naturalist (whose 250th anniversary marks the current year 2019), namely to his travels in Russia, to investigate ore deposits in Siberia, supported by the Russian government. This story appear to be essential to the studies of both the history of science under Nicholas I of Russia and the process of science and knowledge transfer, as the results of Humboldt's scholarship in physical geography influenced substantially the development of medical geography and cartography in the 19th century
