E.A. Vishlenkova and S.N. Zatravkin published an article “Quarantines and sanitary conventions of Russia with the northern maritime powers (first third of the 19th century)”. The results of the study were published in the August issue of the Military-Medical Journal (2020, No. 8. P.73-83). Studying the archives of the foreign policy and the navy of the Russian Empire, the authors reconstructed the mental sanitary maps of the first third of the 19th century using reports from embassies and quarantine agents about outbreaks of infectious diseases, quarantine decrees of other countries, correspondence of Russian diplomats with foreign envoys and the supreme power. allow analyzing the folding of the system of international exchange of sanitary information and methods of extracting from it ideas about healthy and pathogenic zones in the world. The conclusions of the authors on the dependence of mental sanitary maps on sporadic, subjective and rather arbitrary information collected by governments contribute to explaining the causes and the actor of the medicalization of social imagination, which researchers record in the middle of the 19th century
