Natalia Samutina and Elena Melnikova will participate in the Fan Studies Network conference

Natalia Samutina and Elena Melnikova will take part in the 5th Fan Studies Network conference, which will be held on June 23-25, 2017. The conference is organized by the Center for Participatory Culture of the University of Huddersfield, UK.

The central issues of the conference are the follows: representations of fans in media and popular culture, fandom and sports, non-technological practices in fandom, fan conventions and offline spaces, histories and archives of fandom, etc. For more information about the conference, see The Fan Studies Network website.

Natalia Samutina will present a paper “Reading manga in Russia”, Elena Melnikova will make a presentation “The reception of the Southern rock in the North Country: reconceptualizing the legacy of the Confederacy in Russia”.
