Natalia Samutina and Elena Melnikova took part in the 5th Fan Studies Network conference, which was held on June 23-25, 2017. The conference was organized by the Center for Participatory Culture of the University of Huddersfield, UK.

Natalia Samutina and Elena Melnikova took part in the 5th Fan Studies Network conference, which was held on June 23-25, 2017. The conference was organized by the Center for Participatory Culture of the University of Huddersfield, UK.

The central issues of the conference were the follows: representations of fans in media and popular culture, fandom and sports, non-technological practices in fandom, fan conventions and offline spaces, histories and archives of fandom, etc. For more information about the conference, see The Fan Studies Network website.

Natalia Samutina presented a paper “Reading manga in Russia”, Elena Melnikova made a presentation “The reception of the Southern rock in the North Country: reconceptualizing the legacy of the Confederacy in Russia”.
