Public lecture by Juliane Fürst

On December 14, a public lecture was presented by Juliane Fürst (Leibniz Center for Contemporary History (Potsdam) and Humboldt University of Berlin) “Why Soviet Hippies were the better Hippies: A Short Survey of Soviet Flower Power, its History and its Historical Significance”. The event was held within the framework of the mirror laboratory “Late/Post-Soviet: Values, Actors, Practices”.

Public lecture by Juliane Fürst

Juliane Fürst is the author of numerous academic publications on the cultural and social history of various strata of late Soviet society. She pays special attention to the Soviet youth in her studies. The book “Stalin’s Last Generation: Soviet Post-War Youth and the Emergence of Mature Socialism” (Oxford UP, 2010) and this year’s “Flowers Through Concrete. Explorations in Soviet Hippieland” (Oxford UP, 2021) are focused on this topic. In the lecture, Juliane Fürst introduced the audience to some of the findings of her recent book.
