On March 12, a seminar of IGITI Centre for University Studies was held. IGITI Chief Research Fellow and Professor of History at Indiana University Ben Eklof presented a paper "Seeing Like a State? Local Governance and State-Society Relations in Provincial Russia Through the Lens of the School". See the abstract.

At the end of February, the HSE IGITI Research Centre for Contemporary Culture hosted a roundtable entitled ‘Field Studies in Russia: A Country Familiar and Foreign’. Roundtable participants talked about field work methods and standards, research challenges, and ways to solve them. The participants also discussed the extent to which it is possible to apply international experiences and approaches to field work in Russia as well as ways to study Russia from within and without.

New article of IGITI research fellow Jan Surman discusses the history of Habsburg philology as an "a-political" science. On the example of Theodor Gartner, Romance philologist whose work had a great influence on Ukrainian, Romanian and Rhaeto-Roman languages, Surman shows how mobility, research and politics were intertwined in the Habsburg Empire.

Research Assistant of IGITI Olga Vinogradova took part in the seminar "Methodological problems of modern science: epistemology of scientific explanations", which was held on the 25th of February at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University and was devoted to the problems of artificial intelligence.

On February 24, IGITI senior research fellow Alexandra Kolesnik participated in a conference "The industry of provocation and protest: contemporary Russian popular music", which was held in the Humboldt University of Berlin.

A new book by Michael Gordin, IGITI Chief Research Fellow and Princeton University Professor, was released by Princeton University Press. The book "Einstein in Bohemia" explores the period Albert Einstein spent in Prague, the capital of Bohemia, in 1911–1912.

On 12-13 February Jan Surman participated in a conference "Polish-German History. A New Historiographical Field and its Contribution to the History of Europe", held in Paris. The conference was organised by the German Historical Institute in Paris and the Centre for Historical Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

On January 15, IGITI leading research fellow Olessia Kirchik made a presentation at the seminar "L'Univers des choses soviétiques" (World of Soviet Things) of the Center for Russian, Caucasian and Central European Studies (CERCEC) in Paris.

In the annual supplement to the Volume 51 of the journal History of Political Economy, "Economic Knowledge in Socialism, 1945-89" an article was published by a leading researcher at IGITI, Olessia Kirtchik.

Chief Research Fellows of IGITI Sergei Zatravkin and Elena Vishlenkova issued the article 'Early Soviet Medicine: digital and narrative utopies' in the 'Kwartalnik Historii nauki I techniki. Quarterly Journal of the History of Science and Technology' by Polish Academy of Sciences (2019, №4).
