IGITI Research Fellow Jan Surman took part in a conference “Problems of Scientific Freedom in Modern and Contemporary History” in Frankfurt (November 2-3), “Academic Freedom in Historical Perspective – Anniversary Conference of the European Review of History” in Budapest (8-10 November), and a series of public lectures on recent research in Habsburg history at CEU, Budapest.

Research Fellow of IGITI Natalia Nikiforova participated in the international workshop “Philosophy and Technology in Pre- and Post-Revolutionary Petersburg (1866-1932)”, held by the Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University and Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany) in Saint-Petersburg (26 – 29 September 2018).
On October 2, Poletayev Readings took place in IGITI. It is an annual conference of IGITI, held in early autumn in memory of the founder of the Institute Andrey Poletaev (1952–2010). Poletayev Readings has become a tradition for the Instutute and a great place to reflect on ongoing research, to discuss current problems and to plan future projects.
IGITI Research Assistant Julia Kamaeva took part in the workshop "Commodification of History: The Past as Source of Entertainment and Commerce", held on September 14-15 in Prague.
Senior Research Fellow of IGITI Alexander Rusanov took part in the international conference "Exams, degrees and diplomas: Evaluating abilities in univerities from the 12 century to today" (Examens, grades et diplômes – La validation des compétences par les universités du xiie siècle à nos jours).
Vladislav Staf participated in the 5th annual conference of International Federation for Public History (IFPH), which took place on August 21-24 in the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities of the University of Sao Paulo (EACH — USP), Sao Paulo, Brazil. Vladislav presented a paper "Gulag history in camp museums of the region of Perm: some narratives of human rights defenders and prison guards" in the "Difficult Heritage" session.
Deputy Director of IGITI Aleksei Pleshkov took part in the 26th International Conference "The Universe of Platonic Thought. Plato’s Heritage from a Historical View: Intellectual Transformations and New Research Strategies", held on September 13–15 in Saint Petersburg.
