The head of IGITI Irina Savelieva has participated in the conference "The Risk of Freedom", organized by the University of Warsaw.

On December 1, Natalia Samutina participated in the international 'Dirt, Punk, Trash' workshop, organized by Amsterdam University in the framework of the project “Sublime Imperfections” (dr. Ellen Rutten). 

An interview with Dr Emily Alane Erken (PhD, Lecturer at School of Music, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio) has been published on the HSE website. On October 21, Emily presented a paper “The Classic in the Contemporary: Opera Fans’ Online War for Russia’s Soul” on the Research Center for Contemporary Culture Academic Seminar.

Natalia Samutina, leading research fellow of IGITI, reported on "World-Building in Crossover Writing" at the international conference "Expanding Universes. Exploring Transmedial & Transfictional Ways of World-Building" held on September 23-25 in Krakow.

On May 12-13, IGITI Research Centre for Contemporary Culture held an international conference "Challenges of Participatory Culture: Methodologies and Perspectives of Research". Social scientists and scholars from the US and Europe met at the Higher School of Economics and discussed theoretical issues and research methods of the phenomenon of 'participatory culture', as well as different aspects of contemporary culture – fanfiction, street art, musical fandoms, etc. Dr Mark Duffett (University of Chester, UK) wrote a post about the conference.

On April 15, 2016, Sigurdur Gylfi Magnusson, professor at the University of Iceland, and István Szijártó, lecturer at the University of Budapest, reported on Microhistory: its Advantages and Limitations. The round table was organized by the IGITI and the Laboratory of Medieval Studies of the HSE School of History.

On April 20, 2016, Danielle Jacquart, dean and professor of the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudies (Paris), reported on the issue called Animated Body in Medieval Medical Thought.

From November 12th – 14th, 2015, a workshop on ‘Historical and Cultural Narratives. Rivalries and Entanglements in Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine and Belarus)’ took place at the University of Tübingen. The event attracted researchers from Germany, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The workshop opened on November 12 with lectures by Irina Savelieva, IGITI Director, on ‘Professional History and Public History: Goals and Means of Historical Narratives’ and Tamara Hundorova, Professor of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, on 'Generations in Contemporary Ukrainian Literature’. Alexander Makhov prepared a report about the event.

The Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities (IGITI) held an international conference on 29-30 October 2015 on ‘Biological Concepts, Models, and Metaphors in Social and Human Sciences’. For two days, Russian, European and American researchers discussed the relations between social sciences and the humanities and various life sciences. This topic arises largely in the light of the recent boom in genetics, medicine and biology which have led academics to reconsider previous concepts of boundaries and connections between disciplines.
