On April 15, 2019, Research Centre for Contemporary Culture organizes a special event "Manga as Literature, Manga as Reading" with the participation of Jaqueline Berndt (Professor of Japanese Language and Culture, Stockholm University), Yulia Magera (Senior Lecturer, Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies HSE), Natalia Samutina (Leading Researcher, Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities HSE) and Yulia Tarasuk (Leading Librarian, Curator of Comics Library at the Izmailovskaya City Library, Saint Petersburg).

International faculty at HSE are involved not only in research and teaching, but some also combine it with active participation in the city’s public discussion spaces. The HSE Look took an interview with Jan Surman, Research Fellow at Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities (IGITI), about his research and Cultures of Critique project.

On February 27, a seminar "There is Plenty of Room at the Bottom: Making Space in a Limited World" took place in IGITI. Alfred Nordmann, Professor of Philosophy of Science and of Technoscience at Darmstadt Technical University, presented on technosciences as conquest of space. See the lecture's abstract and photos.

Professor Elena Vishlenkova published an article "Education Management as an Exact Science (Russia, First Half of the Nineteenth Century)" in a journal "Quarterly Journal of the History of Science and Technology" (4/2018). The text is available on a journal's website.

Articles by IGITI Research Fellows Julia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov were published in multi-authored monograph "History and Drama. The Pan-European Tradition", edited by Joachim Küpper, Jan Mosch, and Elena Penskaya. The monograph was published by De Gruyter and is available online.

On 20 February, International Symposium "Art Sciences on the Border of Science and Art: The State Academy of Artistic Sciences (GAKhN) and Aesthetic Experience of the 1920s" was held at HSE Moscow. The event was organized by the Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities and the Lotman Institute of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

On February 8, IGITI Leading Research Fellow Olessia Kirchik has participated in a seminar "Critique and circumvention of digital boundaries" (Critique et contournement des frontières numériques) of a collective research project RESISTIC at the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS, Paris).

A book by IGITI Research Fellow Jan Surman, "Universities in Imperial Austria 1848–1918: A Social History of a Multilingual Space", was published by Purdue University Press. See the description and preview.

On November 8, 2018, Paul Josephson, Colby College's Russian and Soviet history professor, delivered a lecture "'New materialism', history, history of technology and environmental history" at the Centre for the History of Ideas and Sociology of Knowledge at IGITI. We present a reportage of the event.

IGITI Chief Research Fellow Christian Fleck has participated in two conferences in Vienna: "Social Sciences as Society Organization: Diagnosis, Reflection, Anticipation" (Sozialwissenschaften als Gesellschaftsgestaltung: Diagnose, Reflexion, Antizipation) and "Edgar Zilsel and Critique of Geniereligion" (Edgar Zilsel und die Kritik der Geniereligion).
