On June 21-22 international conference "Soviet States and Beyond: Political Epistemologies of/and Marxism 1917-1945-1968" was held at IGITI. The conference was focused on the political epistemology of intellectuals, primarily scholars working in the field of humanities and sciences, as well as artists and writers.

Research Fellow of IGITI Natalia Nikiforova participated in the International Conference “Professional Culture of the Specialist of the Future”, that took place in Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University, 28 – 30 November 2018.
IGITI Research Fellow Jan Surman took part in a conference “Problems of Scientific Freedom in Modern and Contemporary History” in Frankfurt (November 2-3), “Academic Freedom in Historical Perspective – Anniversary Conference of the European Review of History” in Budapest (8-10 November), and a series of public lectures on recent research in Habsburg history at CEU, Budapest.
In September, IGITI Research Centre for Contemporary Culture held a seminar ‘Analysing “informal” practices in (digital) cultural economies’. The talk was presented by Dr Ellen Rutten, Professor of Literature at the University of Amsterdam. Research Fellow of IGITI Natalia Nikiforova participated in the international workshop “Philosophy and Technology in Pre- and Post-Revolutionary Petersburg (1866-1932)”, held by the Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University and Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany) in Saint-Petersburg (26 – 29 September 2018).
Article "Science and Terminology in-between Empires: Ukrainian Science in a Search for its Language in the nineteenth century", written by IGITI Research Fellow Jan Surman, is available online in the History of Science journal.
On October 2, Poletayev Readings took place in IGITI. It is an annual conference of IGITI, held in early autumn in memory of the founder of the Institute Andrey Poletaev (1952–2010). Poletayev Readings has become a tradition for the Instutute and a great place to reflect on ongoing research, to discuss current problems and to plan future projects.
